Wedding Planner Ruins Special Day By Making One Mistake In A Hotel Room

A wedding planner wanted a full length photo of the bride’s dress, and so she hung the dress on the sprinkler head in a hotel room. The sprinkler head broke, spraying water, and this “ruined hair and makeup for the entire bridal party, the wedding dress” as well as $3,000 worth of the makeup artist’s equipment – not to mention damage to the room.

Without the dress, the bride wanted to cancel the wedding and reschedule, but her family “is from out of the country” and would have had to make a separate trip so she went ahead with the ceremony. The room was in the bride’s name. She’s on the hook to the hotel, though will presumably go after the wedding planner.

In many hotels there’s literally a sign beside or underneath the sprinkler head saying Do Not Hang Items From Sprinkler Head because people do this.

For instance a high school student on a school trip hung their ROTC uniform the night before a competition, wanting it to ‘look perfect’ – and was surprised to cause $690,000 in damage to the Holiday Inn Dumfries.

Interestingly, your homeowners insurance often covers more than you think it will. The family turned the claim over to their homeowner’s policy. (Did you know that your homeowner’s policy probably covers you if you libel someone online, provided doing so wasn’t part of a commercial enterprise?)

  1. The sprinkler hanging could be an innocent mistake. The refusal to pay the client is indicative of poor character. The client said in another tweet that recovery of damages will occur by lawsuit.

I’m not going to have a wedding. I’m 32 years old and the last of my friend group to not be married yet. We’ve seen enough weddings. When I find my partner, we’re simply going to redeem a f**kton of miles and jet off to the Maldives. Wedding cakes, first dances, bridal dress fittings, yeah no thanks.

  2. I can beat all of them. Some years ago, during a convention, a couple decided to use the hotel room sprinkler as…

    …a bondage accessory.

    Yes.

They suspended a submissive from a hotel room sprinkler. The results were spectacular, necessitating the evacuation of the hotel, the rapid removal of the convention’s art show (directly below the room concerned) and ultimately resulting in the convention having to change its name because, despite the fact that the kinksters concerned *were not actually members of the convention* no hotel would give them space any more.

I wasn’t there, but the incident has become such legend in the SF community around here that “Don’t hang subs from sprinklers” is practically a meme.

  3. Why is this nonsense being covered on this page? What makes this part of being a “thought leader in travel”?

  4. Why don’t they simply redesign sprinkler heads with a simple shroud that makes it hard to hang things from them?

  5. so is the wedding planner using a new tag line: I’ll make your wedding a splashing success !

  6. OMG, for those of us with a sick sense of humor, this is the funniest story ever. I’m so sorry for the poor girls, but it’s difficult to comprehend why they’d hire such a ditz in the first place. Surely by the day of the ceremony the bride should have figured out that the wedding planner was not all there. It’s doubtful that she had any Errors & Omissions insurance. I am also interested in the claim that the wife’s makeup cost $3K … one can only imagine why. For Loren: you can’t ‘shroud’ a sprinkler head because it has only job … spray water all over the room.

  7. The sprinklers I have seen in rooms are on the ceiling. I’m tall but not that tall. I never considered hanging anything on them. I sure won’t now. There is always a closet or some open area with hangers if I want to hang something up.

  8. Loren – Because the shroud would restrict the flow of water, which would defeat the purpose of the sprinkler’s function.

    > Loren – Because the shroud would restrict the flow of water, which would defeat the purpose of the sprinkler’s function.

Only if it wasn’t ejected by the flow of water. Simple clip-on that sticks into the holes the water comes out of. It need not be anything strong, just to make it not practical to hang anything and not easy to slip off.

  10. She should get married in the Episcopal Church. The rector, with assistants from qualified parishioners, runs the wedding. We do not allow “wedding planners” any say regarding the ceremony.

  11. @ CERTIFIED. You haven’t learned much about relationships in 32 years You are 50% of the decision making process. Judging by some of your previous posts, when it comes to interpersonal relationships I’d guestimate considerably less than 50% in your particular case, even when it’s just a “partner.”
BTW . . . there is a reason you are the last of your friend group, but I can relate. Best regards.
