  1. Gary, I’m the one that sent this to Will @ DoC. I figured this was up your alley. I was looking for your email, but couldn’t find it. Do you have an email to forward tips to?

  2. Not sure which is scarier, the disgusting hygiene of this club or the fact that we have illiterate inspectors writing up reports. Makes me feel all worned out.

  3. Just imagine what’s on their planes in the way of food and beverage /sanitary conditions
Only 500,000 sky pesos one way to Sydney in their sub par business class and free poisonings

  4. Classic:

SkyClub membership offers no guest access unless you buy the super expensive one – check.
Have to fly on delta now to get in – check.
Fly Delta, probably get a 25+ year old 757/767/MD-88 – check.
Mold in your ice – check.
All those skypesos you’ll never use – priceless.

  5. Gary, how do other Delta and other airlines’ lounges fare? A one off report is interesting (and disturbing) but lacks the context: is it a one off poorly managed lounge or is this a commonplace occurence across carriers and their lounges?

  6. Good to know, but these reasons are largely chickenshit. Fruit flies by a mop sink? They must have pissed someone off.

  7. Christien these comments are NOT cjickenshit because if you had flies on your food you would not be eating it. Health inspections are done for a reason and that is so the public does not get poised by food and DIES. If you have never worked on a restaurant you have no idea how bad it can get. And how easy it is for cleaning to be skipped

  8. @Tomri – You’re right that sanitation is important. The thing is, while annoying and unpleasant, fruit flies by a mop sink in no way make a restaurant unsanitary. Further, when you mention flies in your food, hopefully you’re not eating in the mop sink. Finally, I’ve worked in restaurants since I was 15, and the places I’ve worked have consistently gotten good health scores. Sadly though, I do know how bad it is in some places.

  9. @Christian the last time I checked congress did not approve the “Wall” between the mop sink area and food prep. Thus the Fruit Flies have the right to fly any where they want in a kitchen and jump borders with out a passport.

Drosophila is typically used in research because it can be readily reared in the laboratory, has only four pairs of chromosomes, breeds quickly, and lays many eggs. Its geographic range includes all continents, including islands. D. melanogaster is a common pest in homes, restaurants, and other places where food is served.[

  10. Fruit flies can make you sick. You wouldn’t want fruit flies landing on a sponge used to clean a toilet and stored in the mop sink. Then the fruit flies with poopy legs flies to your food in the Delta SkyClub and deposits pathogenic microorganisms while walking on your meatballs, mac and cheese, Thai lemongrass curry soup, cold salad bar, chocolate chip cookies, brownie bites, pita chips, or sesame crackers. It is no wonder the health department was concerned. Bon Appétit.

  11. In my opinion and I live where there are bugs all over the place (tho not in my house, well maybe a few, sometimes), is that you don’t need an annual Pest Control Delta and Pest Control Surrey (Exterminator surrey) contract, it is just a rip off. If you start to have more pests over time, you can call and they can treat for the problem once, at that time. You can also spray the entire perimeter of your house if that happens and the bugs go away. That is what we do, and on occasion have had to have professional work done, but not every year.
