Man Racks Up a $2000 Hotel Bill Without Ever Checking In

As Hunter S. Thompson wrote in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers… and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.

Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

A man took his Hunter Thompson a little too seriously to heart at the Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head recently.

According to a statement he gave police, he wasn’t feeling well “after taking a cocktail of drugs including hallucinogenic mushrooms” so he decided to crash on property.

He proceeded to stay for three days going about his business “pretending he was with the previous guests who had already checked out, and enjoyed room service and spa treatments.”

Staff at the hotel did not initially realise what was going on as the man used the in-room phone to order.

According to the police report, the man admitted to the charges of obtaining services without paying…

He was ultimately arrested while on shrooms, and willingly shared that he “had just returned from a party in Atlanta where he consumed ecstasy, bath salts, meth and mushrooms.”

This isn’t the first time he snuck onto a property, stayed, and ran up a bill. In fact he admits it wasn’t the first time he did it on Hilton Head. Police “found a room key for the Omni Hilton Head in his belongings.”
