Star Alliance airlines including United, ANA, Singapore Airlines, and Air China are all running super cheap airfares roundtrip to Singapore. Fares are so low you’d almost think Singapore had just withdrawn from ASEAN!

The country a great jumping off point for travel throughout the rest of Southeast Asia and worth a trip of its own.

Fares are generally available September through March and from a host of cities including San Francisco, Chicago, Newark, and Los Angeles. What’s odd is that usually cheap airfares like this are dropped into competitor hubs but you can fly United from its own hubs.

Here’s Air China from Newark for $600:

Fares around $650 are widely available to and from Chicago.

You can fly the Singapore Airlines inaugural non-stop San Francisco – Singapore flight on October 23 for $648 — that’s a base fare of $60 each way plus taxes and surcharges.

Rules vary slightly, but the Singapore Airlines fare (VMSP45):

• Allows outbound travel Sunday through Thursday
  
• Outbound travel August 15 through December 8 or December 29 through March 31
  
• Requires ticketing by June 30 (although the fare could be pulled before it expires tomorrow)
  
• Carries a $250 change fee

I love Singapore and if you take advantage of this sale don’t just view it as a stopover enroute to other destinations in Asia — it’s a great fare to a great place, spend some time there especially in the Hawker centers.
