PointsHound Introducing Increased Mileage-Earning

I already really like PointsHound for the ability to earn miles when booking hotels for yourself (and especially for others). In that way they’re similar to Rocketmiles (which sometimes offers more miles, but has fewer properties to choose from).

What I especially like though – and what differentiates PointsHound – is the ability to earn miles while in the case of their ‘Doup

We’ve supercharged our website and the deals have never been better. This is no promo – we’ve increased our everyday earning rates and expanded our selection of hotels! Check out the new PointsHound and see how many more points you can earn on your next hotel stay.

Here are their examples:

A couple of months ago PointsHound was acquired by Points.com. That’s the company that many frequent flyers know lets you transfer and trade points (at a substantial loss or cost) between programs. But they’re primarily focused on technology solutions for loyalty programs, handling the back end of mileage transfers and purchases. (So when you buy miles from an airline, in many cases it is Points.com charging your card.)

That positions PointsHound with stronger relationships, and likely lower cost per point. I haven’t done a before and after comparison of earn rates, but the acquisition and their messaging resonate as consistent with each other and available facts.

Always worth checking more than one site for pricing on hotels. I’ve had PointsHound come up with lower rates than I could find elsewhere, and I’ve had times where I could beat rates on my own.

  1. I haven’t been able to find double-dip rates for a couple months now – do they no longer offer them?

  2. I haven’t found a Double Up available hotel room in more than 6 months. I’ve searched multiple cities on multiples dates in 2014 and 2015, and nothing ever comes up. I think it’s just an advertising scam at this point.

  3. Gary,

Do bookings from PointsHound, et al. earn hotel points? Or are they considered discount/consolidator rates. I’ve been too lazy to look into it, largely because I usually travel on .gov rates when it’s paid travel. Thanks,

  4. Ditto what David said.

This week in San Jose there is unusual availability because of the July 4th long weekend. No double up rates listed despite lots and lots of hotels coming up. I tried again labor day week and saw the same thing. The earning rates seem higher, but the main reason I used them in the past was that I got credit towards elite status as well.

  5. I found some great rates in NY around a business trip my husband is debating. He’d better decide soon!

  6. Oh, and to reinforce the point–the filter for DoubleUp rates that was previously available is no longer listed. Course it never worked anyway, but still…

  7. Gary, I appreciate your insights. How about some hotel info geared toward us budget travelers? I use Wyndham rewards and stay in their budget accommodations. But I still like to earn points and get rewards, just on a smaller scale than some of y’all. Thanks!
