Up to 40% Off a Hotel Booking Today Only

Magic of Miles highlights a $40 off $100 hotel booking code you can use in conjunction with the Travelocity mobile app.

Book today for travel through the end of the year with promotion code MOBILE40.

The trick? Most national hotel brands are excluded from the promotion. Here’s the list of excluded hotel chains:

Accor Hotels, Amari Hotels, Anantara Hotels, Aston, Banyan Tree, Barcelo, Carlson Hotels and Resorts, Choice, Drury Inn & Suites, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Fortune Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Furama, Hilton Hotels, Holiday Express Suite, Holiday Inn, IHG, Intercontinental Resorts, La Quinta Inns, Langham, Loews, Louvre, Mandarin Oriental Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Melia Resorts, Movenpick, NH Hotels, Oberoi, Peninsula Hotels, RIU Hotels and Resorts, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, Scandic Hotels, Shangri-La Hotels, Six Senses, Starwood, Taj Hotels, Vincci, Woodside Hotels

No Marriott, Hilton, IHG, or Starwood hotels. At least I don’t see Hyatt on this list, and Hyatt will honor elite benefits (although not stay credit towards qualifhying for status) on third party bookings.

Presumably the reason for this exclusion is that chains negotiate lower commissions from online travel agencies than independent hotels do. Order of magnitude think on average a big chain pays 20% in commission and an independent hotel may pay 40%. So the margins on most non-excluded properties allow Travelocity to push their mobile booking app in this way.

  1. thanks Gary. i totally killed travelocity with this… booked a dozen rooms under a dozen reservations, using a dozen different credit cards (so that the promo code can be reused with a new CC)… all reservations currently booked. fingers crossed they stick!

  2. I wonder why only Hyatt is not in the exclusion list, while every other possible chain is excluded.
Could this just be a mistake?

  3. Like Eric, I ran through shop with 10+ hotel nights booked. It really is an amazing deal, considering it worked on any local property, stuff that is never discounted. Lots of local unique boutique hotels.
