19 Million Reader Giveaway Prizes Have Now Been Awarded!

Earlier in the month I featured my Million Reader Giveaway where I promised 15 prizes in exchange for your travel tips.

I’ve been remiss in awarding those prizes, because over 1300 entries is a lot especially when some of the prizes are being awarded based on subjective evaluation (that’s 1300 travel tips that I have to think about!).

But since I want to be able to give you all elite status and points, plus I have these gift cards sitting on my coffee table that I’m going to have to start resisting the temptation to turn them into money orders and deposit them back into my bank account, I went ahead and put together some winners.

And I decided to give away more than the 15 prizes promised.

Since I’m a co-founder of the Milepoint frequent flyer community I was able to set aside (10) Milepoint Premium memberships even though they are sold out.

These packages provide the winners with:

  • Hilton Gold status
  • 1000 United miles
  • National Car Rental Executive status

.. and a variety of other perks.

In addition, I’ve awarded $800 in MasterCard gift cards, and $100 in Starbucks gift cards.

In total, 19 prizes awarded as a thank you to all of my readers, with the promised half awarded randomly and half picked because of the interesting or fun travel tips left in the comments of this post which are well worth a read or at least a skimming.

It turns out that it’s a lot of work to search for the e-mail addresses of commenters to the blog to match up contact information with individual comments. But as of now, each winner of a Milepoint Premium membership has had their email address submitted to Milepoint. You should be getting something soon for fulfillment. And each winner of a gift card has received an email from me asking for the address to send your card to.

I hope to highlight some of the winner (and even non-winner, but likely deserving) tips in future posts.

And in the meantime I’ve learned my lesson, administering these things takes time! I apologize for my tardiness in awarding these prizes!

  1. Take your time
Thank you for you generous prizes and congrats again on our blog’s success!
    Have a happy new year

  2. Wow! 19 million prizes awarded? Nice work!

Seriously though – thanks Gary for all the insight and content all year. Happy New Year!

  3. I mentioned in the first post… I believe what I gave away was (10) Milepoint Premium memberships, 5 MasterCard gift cards ($100 and $200 denominations) and 4 Starbucks gift cards.

  4. @Heather – I did not list out all 19 winners and their comments, that would have been a very long post (and take a lot longer to put together — I was already behind in getting this done). I contacted each winner, for the gift cards I’ve gotten back 8 of the 9 mailing addresses and stuffed/sealed envelopes. I fulfilled the Milepoint Premium memberships using Milepoint’s portal for gifting.

  5. Thanks for g great year of posts. My husband and I are leisure travelers and getting status every year takes some work and planning. Thanks to your blog, we enjoy free lounge visits, status with several hotel properties and many upgrades when we fly. Many a business traveler has asked me how I learned about all these programs. I turned them on to your blog. When our accountant went to Europe, I “educated” him on the value of the sapphire preferred card and heard nothing but praises after his return. Too many great tips to list, so just, THANK YOU !
