Alaska Airlines Struggles Are Your Win: 30% And 40% Airfare Discounts

It’s not just bonus elite qualifying miles that Alaska Airlines is using to get passengers back in the air after the ungrounding of the Boeing 737 MAX 9. They’re also giving out discounts, too.

Their double and triple elite qualifying miles offer is for February only. Clearly they’re worried just about close-in bookings.

They’re also sending out both targeted, and generally available discount offers. For instance some customers have received one-time use 40% off coupons. While anyone can use:

  • Promo code THANKYOU30
  • 30% off of bookings made by January 31 for travel February 8 through March 13
  • Coach only, no first class
  • Valid on flights departing to Hawaii/Florida/Latin America/Bahamas on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays only.

Valid on flights departing from Hawaii/Florida/Latin America/Bahamas on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays only.

Valid for all other markets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. A 10% off offer is valid for all remaining days of week.

  • Blackout dates: to/from Alaska February 16-24, 2024, March 6 -13, 2024 and all other markets February 16-24, 2024.

Some of you may find this useful. I find it interesting because discounting fills planes, and because it’s clear that customers have been booking away from Alaska in the short term while the aircraft which represents over a quarter of their mainline fleet was grounded and they were forced to cancel flights. I just wish the discount wasn’t so restrictive.

  1. @ Gary — “Their double and triple elite qualifying miles offer is for February and March only”. Is that correct, in that March is inclded?

  2. @ Gary — You had my hopes up! 🙂 Between LH rebooking us on a full-fare BA F ticket to London during our recent award trip, the new credit card EQMs (which are generous when you use them in conjunction with a SUB where you have to spend $4k of the $10k anyway) and this 2x EQM promo, AS status will be super-easy this year!
